During the 2012/13 season Michu became a favourite of the pub bore. 'Did you know that he only cost Swansea £2 million?' became the refrain from many a bar stool. 'Sure all these other managers are eejits. Laudrup's a genius. Only £2 million.'

During that season, he scored a total of 22 goals for Swansea.

Three years later and Michael Laudrup is out of work. He last managed in the Qatar Stars League.

Michu's star has also fallen. He's currently playing in the fourth tier of Spanish football with UP Langreo - a club managed by his brother.

His descent that far down the leagues was mainly by choice. It was also due to a persistent ankle injury. After leaving Swansea, he joined Langreo.

In an interview with FIFA TV, the Spaniard spoke about his injury woes and his hopes for the future.

It was my right ankle. I started to have almost overnight during my second year at Swansea. I've had loads of treatment and countless operations but I've never managed to fully recover.

At just 30-years-old, Michu has hopes of reigniting his playing career.

I'm someone who's driven by emotions and at the moment I'm extremely happy. I'd love to be on the pitch helping Langreo getting promoted to Segunda B. This is what I'm working towards. That's why I'm training mornings and afternoons and the reason why I spend many hours many hours having physio. My entire body is healing and recovering. The same can be said mentally.

So, in July, hopefully, you'll see Michu in top form once again.
