World's Most Expensive Footballer Nonsense Takes Another Laughable Turn

At this stage someone is just taking the piss when it comes to either wanting to massage Cristiano Ronaldo's ego or wanting to make sure everyone knows that he has an ego. For all we know, he's actually an incredibly humble chap and all the extraneous nonsense, like that film of his, has been dreamt up by a marketing company to make him as much money as possible.

That certainly has a bit to do with it but common sense would suggest that there probably is a bit of an ego driving it all. And, for the most part, that's not a bad thing. Without an ego he probably wouldn't have been able to drive himself to the extent that there's even a conversation about the best player in the world.

However, when you see the extent to which the Real Madrid media machine goes to ensuring that everything is delicately balanced to show that Ronaldo is the king, it's almost sad.

After the Football Leaks website revealed details of Gareth Bale's last week which 'definitively proved' that he was the world's most expensive footballer, the Madrid mouthpiece that is Marca, has just so happened upon some documents which show that no, actually when you look at it properly, Ronaldo is once again the top of the heap when it comes to football's ludicrous transfer inflation.

Marca are reporting that although the €100,759,418 fee for Bale was correct, the details of the deal that brought Ronaldo to the Bernabeu have been reexamined and it just so happens that Madrid ended up paying €104.7 million instead of €96.9 million.

The difference in prices can be put down to the fact that Madrid opted to pay in three instalments which ensured that they were forced to pay significant interest on the deal which. just like that, means Ronaldo has not been overtaken by his Welsh rival.

The add some 'balance' to the steaming pile of shit that is the childish massaging of Ronaldo's ego by Madrid's hierarchy, Marca somehow still managed to get a dig in at Barca by suggesting that the dodgier elements of the deal that brought Neymar to La Liga will in fact mean that Barca end up spending more than Real did on Ronaldo. They even end the report saying 'But that is another story. And another way of doing things.'
