Despite the outstanding start to Romelu Lukaku's Man Utd career, as well as the exciting form of both Marcus Rasford and Anthony Martial, Jose Mourinho could be set to bolster his attacking options for the second half of the season (possibly sooner) by once again securing the services the one and only Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

This is a move that many had slated as a possibility when the Swedish striker's contract expired during the summer after a bad knee injury called a halt to his impressive debut season in the Premier League.

Talks with AC Milan and LA Galaxy were rumoured, and his #9 shirt was given to Lukaku, but as time went on it became more and more plausible that he would re-sign with United, the club with whom he was undergoing his rehabilitation.

And now ESPN are reporting that Ibrahimovic will sign a new contract with the club this week:

Manchester United expect Zlatan Ibrahimovic to sign a new contract to stay at Old Trafford as early as this week, sources have told ESPN FC.

Free agent Ibrahimovic, 35, is recovering from a knee ligament injury sustained in a Europa League match against Anderlecht in April which was expected to keep him out until 2018.

The new contract will be announced earlier than anticipated due to the former Sweden international's quick recovery.

That is a big boost for the club, as while Mino Raiola's claims that a medical research paper was being compiled on Zlatan's incredibly recovery proved to be nothing other than bullshit, he could be back playing before 2018.

Alan Pardew suggested after the Swansea win that if United could get Ibrahimovic back in training he could go a long way to helping Romelu Lukaku become a truly complete striker, after he criticised the Belgian's link-up play despite his three goals in two games.

But Zlatan gave everybody at the club a lift last season with his presence and attitude, so this is surely news that will go down well with the club's fans.

What number is going to wear, maybe Rooney's #10?
