10 GAA Songs That Should Be Recorded As Soon As Possible

Beyond extending the syllables of a county's name, there just isn't enough organised singing within the GAA.

Unfortunately, since the height of "Boom Boom Boom, let me hear you say Jayo (Jayo!)" 22 years ago, GAA fans have let themselves down badly in this regard.

The absence of segregated seating - and some inescapable retirements - may never allow some of these altered songs be heard belting forth from the terraces, but who knows?

In no particular order of excellence, here are our ten best efforts at changing songs to suit the names of famous figures from the GAA - we hope you can never sing them in their original format again.

If you can think of any more, do not hesitate to let us know.

Joe Deane (Cork) - "Jolene", Dolly Parton

"Joe Deane, Joe Deane, Joe Deane, Joe Deeeeeane
I'm begging you to please lose your man."

Joe Brolly (Derry) - "I Want To Dance With Somebody", Whitney Houston

"Oh, I want to dance with Joe Brolly,
I wanna blow a kiss at Joe Brolly,
Yeah, I wanna dance with Joe Brolly,
With Joe Brolly who loves me"

Ger Loughnane (Clare) - "Roxanne", The Police

"Loughnaaaane"

Colm O'Neill & Eoin Cadogan (Cork) - "Wagon Wheel", Nathan Carter

"So rock me Cado like Colm O'Neill
Rock me Cado any way you feel
Hey, Cado rock me"

Recommended

Marc Ó Sé (Kerry) - "Lovely Day", Bill Withers

"Then I look at you, and Kerry looks alright to me
Just one look at you, I know it's got to be
Marc Ó Sé, Marc Ó Sé, Marc Ó Sé, Marc Ó Sé"

Conor Hayes (Galway) - "Happy Days" (Theme Song)

"Sunday, Monday, Conor Hayes,
Tuesday, Wednesday, Conor Hayes,
Thursday, Friday, Conor Hayes
Saturday, what a day
Hurling all week with you"

Stephen Cluxton (Dublin) - "Here Comes The Sun", The Beatles

"Andy Moran, it's been a long cold lonely winter,
Paul Geaney, it feels like years since you have scored
Here comes Cluxton, Here comes Cluxton,
And I say... you've no chance"

"Bubbles" O'Dwyer (Tipperary) - "Great Balls of Fire", Jerry Lee Lewis

"You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, but what a thrill
Goodness, gracious, great "Bubbles" O'Dwyer"

Micky Harte (Tyrone) - "Wooden Heart", Elvis Presley

This one is unique on the list in that it only applies to Tyrone's biggest rivals, Derry.

"You've got one, we've got three,
We've got Mattie Donnelly,
Whaddya think of that Brolly?
'Cause you don't have a Micky Harte"

The Mahers (Tipperary) - "Counting Stars", One Republic

"Said no more counting Ryans
 We'll be counting Mahers"

Sorry.
