The 2015 Waterford U21 hurling final between De La Salle and Dungarvan was played at the WIT Sports Campus on Tuesday evening.

It was a game delayed for several reasons including the tragic death of Trevor Crotty earlier this year.

Waterford freelance journalist Tomás McCarthy told us that the county U21 final is usually played at the end of the year but was initially delayed until January 10th. Unplayable pitches meant that it was postponed until May 10th. Tragedy hit the Dungarvan club when Trevor Crotty died in a car accident and, understandably, the game was cancelled.

Waterford senior and U21 hurlers going deep in their respective Championships - the latter team winning theirs - meant the game could not be played until last night.

It was a match well worth the wait.

De La Salle were crowned county champions in a game featuring a total of eight goals and 36 points.

Earlier this month, Waterford won the All-Ireland U21 Championship with a magnificent performance against Galway.

Last night's game featured stars of that team such as Patrick Curran, Darragh Lyons and Adam Farrell.

Dungarvan actually led the game at the half by four points.

It rained goals in the second half. The game was level with less than 10 minutes remaining.

However, De La Salle pulled away late in the game, outscoring their opponents 1-5 to 1-1 when the game was in the mix.

De La Salle midfielder Shane Ryan was named Man of the Match after scoring a monumental 2-11 of his side's 4-20.
