The GAA might be shaving a few weeks off the inter-county season in 2018, but it's wasting no time is getting things started on this side of the calendar, with the 2018 season getting under way today, two days before 2018 even starts.
There was lots of hurling and football action up and down the county today, and produced some very familiar images for those lovers of pre-season inter-county GAA.
The back wall is always the place to stand

Nothing quite says Munster Senior Hurling League like a grassy hill in the background

In the Walsh Cup, a hedge is the background of choice

December GAA is a place for die-hards

Laois even seemed confused that Gaelic football was being played in December at all. This headed clearance will get you nowhere in the O'Byrne Cup

And neither will attempted rugby tackles

The managers need to wrap up well

Though we're not sure of the benefit of the two-hat look for Wexford manager Paul McLoughlin

John Meyler took the line as Cork manager for the first time

And despite everything, there was lots of hard, tough, quality hurling and football played

How great it is to have the GAA back. We don't care how early you start the 2018 season!
