The nations of Galicia in Spain and Brittany in France have already broken ground with their annual international match but France v Italy will be the first time two countries play each other in Gaelic football.

The GAA hope that this will be the start of a development that would expand into international competitions in the future. The event will be part of the French Federation's (FFG) 10th anniversary celebrations; an organisation which now boasts 20 clubs.

They also hope that the event will help promote hurling, handball and ladies football.
