Is Andy Moran the most popular man in Mayo?

The Footballer of the Year contender had an outstanding Championship campaign as Mayo came up short in their bid to win the All-Ireland Final against Dublin.

Moran has had a career resurgence this year, and has become the one of the faces of Mayo's eternal quest for All-Ireland glory.

One of the most popular players in the country among neutrals, Fine Gael earmarked the Ballaghaderreen to take one of the most high-profile Dail seats in the country.

Enda Kenny looks set to retire from politics before the next General Election, and Fine Gael officials are looking for candidates to replace him. According to the Mayo News, they set their eyes on the corner-forward.

One name linked with a possible surprise bid is Mayo football star Andy Moran. His name has been touted by many in the party as a very attractive name for the party due to his huge popularity and renowned speaking skills.

It's not the first time Fine Gael have gone down this path in Mayo. Former manager John O'Mahony served as a TD between 2007 and 2016. He is currently a Senator.

Moran quickly set the record straight with the same newspaper. He already has his focus set for 2018 and it's not on a run for Leinster House.

I’ve no interest in going for politics. My focus is on my family, my business, playing with Mayo and, when I finish playing with Mayo, going into coaching.

Earlier this week, Moran revealed he had unfinished business with Mayo, after another All-Ireland defeat in the green and red. With the form he has shown in recent months, there is no reason to step back from the game he has given so much to.
