Limerick produced an utterly dominant display in their Munster SHC round robin victory over Tipperary this afternoon, although there was a muted atmosphere after the game after Peter Casey picked up a potentially serious injury in the closing stages of the contest.

It was a top class performance from John Kiely's men, who produced some wonderful scores throughout the match. After steadily building their lead over the course of the first half, they looked in a comfortable position at the interval.

That continued after the break, with goals from Aaron Gillane and Peter Casey all but ending the fixture as a contest with 15 minutes still to go.

Unfortunately, Peter Casey would suffer what looked to be a serious injury in the process of scoring that goal. After receiving some treatment on the pitch, the player would come off on a stretcher to a round of applause from the supporters.

The game understandably petered out somewhat from that point onwards, with Limerick going on to win on a scoreline of 2-24 to 0-18.

While there has been no official update as of yet, many GAA fans are fearing the worst for Peter Casey after the injury he picked up in today's game. The Limerick man looked to be in a lot of pain and the TV pictures did not make for pleasant viewing.

It was an incredibly unfortunate development, especially when you consider his performance on the day. He had terrorised the Tipp defence all afternoon and notched a personal tally of 1-2 prior to his injury. He would be named as man-of-the-match for his efforts.

Speaking on RTÉ after the game, Anthony Daly made it clear that the decision to hand Casey the award was not borne out of sympathy and was fully deserved.

Unfortunately he looks to have picked up a severe injury. We were debating at that stage who it would be, then he got his goal and our minds were made up.

Unfortunately then he picked up the injury and we wish him the very best. He's an absolute gent and brilliant, brilliant player.

Ursula [Jacob] was highlighting his workrate in the first half, all that class came out in the second half into the wind.

We just wish him the very best. He's a great player and will be a huge loss to them. Hopefully he might not be out that long, we wish him the very best...

I was often told he might be too small to be an inter-county hurler when he was younger, but when you put yourself about like the way he does, he has that movement as well.

This fella has incredible feet. He might not win too many 100-metre sprints, but he's in the right place a lot of the time. He sense where there is space and then has the eye to attack and go at his man.

The shot for the goal, unfortunately that's where he picked up the knock, it was very low to the corner. He's a great man to pick up on what he has been coached on.

He was a deserving man-of-the-match.

Limerick captain Declan Hannon would pick up the award on Peter Casey's behalf, paying tribute to his teammate for his performance in the game.

John Kiely would give an update to RTÉ soon after, and while he said that no diagnosis has been made at this point, it did look like a very serious injury.

Apart from winning or losing or anything like that, it doesn't matter what team the players are on for us or anyone involved in sport, nobody wants to see players get seriously injured on the field of play.

Peter has been there before with a serious injury in Croke Park in the All-Ireland final, he has had to make that recovery before. I don't know the full extent of the injury, but it is a significant injury, there is no two ways about that.

We're thinking of him now this evening. He will get the best of care and we will make sure he's well looked after. We will give him every chance to make a comeback at some point in the future.

It's very, very disappointing.

While this was a wonderful result and performance from Limerick, they will no doubt have their teammate at the forefront of their minds this evening.

We wish Peter Casey all the best in his recovery.
