There were just over 80 seconds elapsed in Mount Sion and Roanmore's Waterford Senior Hurling Championship clash at Walsh Park on Sunday when referee Thomas Walsh sent off Austin Gleeson.

Moments earlier, Mount Sion's star player had floored Roanmore half-forward Brian Nolan with a heavy hit.

After consulting linesman Eddie Fitzgerald, the referee showed Gleeson a straight red card.

Last weekend's game was broadcast live by Waterford GAA and Beosport.live.

It was a moment which seemed to divide opinion in Waterford on whether or not Gleeson deserved the punishment. In slow motion, he does appear to hit Nolan's chest rather than his shoulder meaning it was not a fair challenge.

Roanmore went on to win the game 2-21 to 0-17 in what was both teams' final game of the group stage of the Waterford SHC.

The quarter-finals take place this weekend with Mount Sion set to be without Gleeson when they face De La Salle on Sunday.
