The announcement that Headquarters would be sending guidelines on social media to its players was met with derision by a few GAA players on Twitter yesterday. There's more and more GAA players on Twitter and Facebook, though they're hardly the most controversial sector of the online community. We don't have the exact guidelines to hand, but we can make a pretty good guess as to what the GAA will be expecting of its players online:

Do Tweet/Post On Facebook:

  • Photos outside of mass
  • Poetry about the under-rated greatness of linesmen
  • Descriptions of the transformative power of amateur sport
  • Recaps of playing/attending handball games
  • Praise for your county board
  • Post on the joy of winter training after a day's work

Do NOT Tweet/Post On Facebook:

  • Photos taken outside of European strip clubs
  • Affection for Rio Ferdinand
  • Details of receiving payments from county board/local businessmen
  • Details of your manager receiving payments from county board/local businessmen
  • Discussion of pre-marital sex of any kind
  • Fashion talk
