Controversy In All-Ireland Ladies Final As Dublin Have Blatantly Legitimate Point Ruled Wide

It was a tight, low-scoring game in the All-Ireland ladies final between Dublin and Cork at Croke Park. Every point was vital. Cork won the match by a point on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-6.

Dublin led the game by the minimum at half-time - 0-4 to 0-3. Their advantage should have been double that, though.

Dublin forward Carla Rowe had a blatantly legitimate score ruled wide by the umpire in the first half.

Cork led 0-3 to 0-2 in the 22nd minute of the game when Rowe's shot clearly went inside the right-hand post of Cork keeper Martina O’Brien's goal.

Referring the score to Hawkeye was not an option for referee Brendan Rice.
