Carnacon Put Up Astonishing Scoreline As They Retain Mayo County Title

After a tumultuous few months for the club, Carnacon have assuredly retained their hold on the Mayo senior club championship.

Taking on Knockmore in today's county final, the ladies of Carnacon ran out convincing winners - 9-10 to 0-4 a scoreline that leaves little to the imagination as to how this one played out.

Having initially been thrown out of the Mayo club championship in August, the role eight of the Carnacon players had in a mass walkout of the senior county panel was deemed worthy of such action.

County, provincial and All-Ireland champions, this punishment was rescinded after the club made an appeal to the Connacht LGFA.

Resulting in bans (eventually reduced themselves) and suspensions for the players involved, Carnacon have now ensured they will have a chance to defend their provincial and All-Ireland crowns.

In an admittedly one-sided county final, Carnacon had grabbed 3 goals before their first point of the game arrived courtesy of Cora Staunton.

The second came quickly after, and a fourth goal from Staunton to seemingly put things well beyond Knockmore's reach.

4-2 to 0-2 ahead at the break, Carnacon, determined to lay down a marker, pushed on relentlessly.

With scores coming from Louise Dowling, Erina Flannery, Amy Dowling and Staunton throughout, the eventual scoreline left little doubt as to who the dominant force are in Mayo club football.
