Second Captains' interview with the deeply beloved Mayo footballer Ciaran McDonald was met with great acclaim last night. But one of the most startling facts about Supermac's career was revealed off-camera.

The preposterously stylish centre-half forward was chatting to the lads afterwards and let slip an astonishing nugget, which Ken Early detailed on this evening's instalment of Second Captains Football.

McDonald told how he kicked 0-4 on his senior championship debut for Crossmolina. An impressive debut. Made all the more impressive by his age at the time.

He was 14.

A 14 year old kicking 0-4 in the Mayo championship in 1989. One for the future, at least. Of course it couldn't happen now thanks to what Jeremy Clarkson might call that oul' health and safety stuff.

McDonald would eventually make his senior Mayo debut five years later in 1994.
