Here's a worrying thought for counties other than Monaghan: Rory Beggan works as a games promotion officer. Just think about how many more boots like his he's going to have a direct influence in producing for the county.

'Weapon' has always been the word used to describe the Monaghan goalkeeper but never more has it been uttered than this season.

The 26-year-old is his county's second top scorer in championship. He's kicked 16 points in total - 11 frees and five 45s.

His influence goes far beyond just putting scores on the board. His kick-outs also make him a key playmaker.

Beggan isn't some freakish talent, he's worked hard to reach the level he is at. His style looks effortless, it is all about the technique.

"He's come on this last couple of years and that has been down to the practice and the work he puts down on the training pitch," Monaghan captain Colin Walshe said at the launch of the EirGrid Moments in Time competition.

"Definitely he's just got that natural strike about him. It just looks effortless. He never looks like he's trying too hard.

"If I was trying to kick a '45 I'd look like it was a lot of work for me, whereas he can just clip it.

"It's something that he's worked on and it's something he has improved on so it's obviously the practice he's putting in.

"Not every team has a weapon like him from free-kicks."

Walshe knows well the nightmare it can be for opposition sides to face Monaghan. Teammates at inter-county level, they have been opponents at club level. Walshe plays for Doohamlet and Beggan for Scotstown.

I know from playing against him at club level how much of a torture he can be.

If you imagine what he's like at county football, you should see him on a club pitch. Where he can put the ball, it's crazy.

Kick-outs are not a one-man job. Walshe and his teammates know it's about their runs in tandem with Beggan's laser-guided striking.

"He knows and we know that if we're making the runs and giving him the option that he'll find you nine times out of ten.

"The further you can get up the field winning kick-outs, the better attacking chance you have. It's definitely a bonus that he can throw the ball out with no tee and have it sitting 60, 70, 80 yards up the field.

"Again it's about us, and he harps on at us, about making the options for him, making the runs, because that is what it takes too for it to work."

EirGrid, now in its third year as the official timing partner to the GAA, works closely with communities around Ireland every day and the organisation wants to ensure that these communities have a chance to benefit because of their partnership with the GAA.

EirGird is calling on all GAA supporters throughout the country to submit their favourite image of a GAA Moment in Time be it on the pitch as a player, as a volunteer in a club or as a supporter on the sideline to be in with a chance to win a digital clock and scoreboard for their club.
