One week after their Allianz Hurling League meeting, the hurlers of Tipperary and Kilkenny once faced off, this time at FBD Semple Stadium in Thurles.

The match was in aid of the Dillon Quirke Foundation. Former Tipp hurler Quirke died after collapsing during a club game last August, while in action for Clonoulty Rossmore against Kilruane MacDonaghs.

The Dillon Quirke Foundation is aimed at fighting sudden adult death syndrome (SADS), raising awareness and saving lives through heart screening.

Two goals from Gearoid Dunne and a Martin Keoghan green flag helped the visitors into a 3-12 to 0-13 half-time lead, and Dunne completed his hat-trick after the break to help seal the 4-20 to 0-25 win for Derek Lyng's team.

Both teams had numerous front-liners on the field, and will have acted as a useful exercise for both sides as they prepare for next week's Allianz League action.
