As the clock turned red and the hour of play was up, Portlaoise had yet to take a penalty that had been awarded over a minute earlier. If Craig Rogers could put the ball beyond Kilmacud Crokes' David Nestor, hopes of reaching the Leinster club football final would be alive and well.
Having already let 3 goals beyond him, Nestor was afforded plenty of time to consider how he would approach trying to save this decisive kick.
With the scoreboard reading 1-17 to 3-8 in the Dublin club's favour, any sort of save at all would surely be enough to put Kilmacud in their first provincial final since 2010.
From the unenviable perspective of the taker Rogers, what was he to do? Blast it? Place it? Hope for the best? In the end, the kick had very little power about it, but was, admittedly, very well placed. Unfortunately, what materialised was nowhere near to the best for the Portlaoise man.
Diving quickly to his right, David Nestor saved what would otherwise have looked a perfectly well-taken penalty. Sadly, for Rogers, no sooner had it been saved that it became quickly apparent what was lacking; namely, a bit of power.
Not the best penalty, perhaps, David Nestor deserved huge credit nevertheless for pulling off this wonderful save in such delicate circumstances.
Kilmacud Crokes will now advance to this year's Leinster club final where they will face Longford's Mullinalaghta St Columba's
