Davy Fitzgerald Sent Off For Sideline Antics As 14-Man Wexford Play Out Dramatic Antrim Draw

There's nobody else quite like Davy Fitzgerald in the GAA.

The Clare native definitely splits opinion. Some love his passion and the way he approaches every game, but others feel he does cross a line at times with his antics on the sideline. This afternoon provided a perfect example.

Wexford travelled to Antrim needing to bounce back with a win after a disappointing result against Kilkenny last week, with a potential loss to the Ulster side likely to pile on the pressure ahead of the quickly approaching provincial championship.

They couldn't manage it, with Antrim getting a fully deserved draw in the dying moments of the game.

With 500 spectators at the fixture, Wexford started well. Goals from Conor McDonald and Paul Morris meant they entered the halftime break with a four-point advantage.

However, manager Davy Fitzgerald would be sent to the stands after getting into a spat with Antrim counterpart Darren Gleeson on the sideline.

Fitzgerald would spend the rest of the contest leading his charges from the other side of the fence.

The turning point in the game came ten minutes into the second half.

Antrim's Neil McManus and Wexford's Matthew O'Hanlon got into an altercation on the pitch, with the latter receiving a red card as a result.

It's not exactly clear why he was sent off, although replays indicate it may have been interfering with his opponent's helmet.

Listen to that roar! From this point, Antrim had the momentum in the game.

The two sides were tit for tat throughout the closing stages, although Antrim seemed to be in an excellent position after this goal from Shea Shannon.

Wexford battled back to hold a one-point lead as the final seconds of additional time ticked away, but a point from Keelan Molloy with the last puck of the game ensured the two sides finished level.

What a contest.
