Dublin were made to work but eventually cruised to victory over Carlow in their Leinster quarter-final, emerging 0-19 to 0-7 victors in Portlaoise.

While Carlow did themselves proud with a solid defensive performance and some fine scores of their own, Dublin's Diarmuid Connolly might well find himself in hot water after a clash with a linesman during the second half.

With the ball bundled out over the sideline, Connolly and a couple of Carlow players were involved in a minor skirmish in an attempt to get the ball and restart the game quickly.

The linesman ruled in favour of Carlow regaining possession, however, much to the ire of Connolly. The St. Vincents man confronted the official and - albeit lightly - pushed him backwards a couple of steps while ferociously protesting the decision.

Unfortunately for Connolly, if the rules surrounding such an incident are imposed, he'd miss at least three months of action for the Dubs.

The rules state that 'minor physical interference', including 'laying a hand on, pushing, pulling or jostling' with a match official - including a linesman - is punishable with a suspension of at least 12 weeks, from all codes.

Were he to receive such a punishment, Connolly would be ruled out of action until at least the All-Ireland final were Dublin to make it.

Earlier this week, Tipperary goalkeeper Evan Comerford was suspended for 12 weeks for a "minor physical altercation" with referee Paddy Russell during a club game.
