Dublin 0-17 Kilkenny 3-25

An impressive second half performance saw Kilkenny get the better of Dublin in round four of the Leinster senior hurling championship. The Cats' power and ruthlessness in front of goal during the second period ultimately proved to be the difference in the end.

Dublin had no answer for Kilkenny in the second half where the victors outscored their opponents 2-14 - 0-06.

Early on in this encounter, it was nip and tuck. After 15 minutes it was the home side who started brightly leading 0-5 to 0-3 as Donal Burke was influential for the Dubs. The reigning Leinster champions came roaring back into the contest when the lively Cian Kenny, Alan Murphy and TJ Reid put Kilkenny 0-7 to 0-5 on 18 minutes.

Long ranges scores from Chris Crummey and Donal Burke had the sides level soon after that. The sides traded scores once again up until Mossy Keoghan showed his strength pushing Cian O'Callaghan off the ball to rattle the sliotar to the back of net and raise the first green flag of the day on 27 minutes.

Rian McBride and Donal Burke reduced the gap to the minimum on 31 minutes. While Alan Murphy and Mossy Keoghan finished the scoring in the first half to have Brian Cody's charges leading 1-11 - 0-11 at the break.

Mark Schutte quickly narrowed the gap after the interval with a neat point. Kenny, Mullen and TJ Reid pushed Kilkenny into a five point lead on the 40th minute. Keoghan six minutes after that added his second goal of the day sending a bullet of a shot past Sean Brennan putting them 2-14 to 0-14 ahead.

Dublin tried to rally the troops but couldn't match the opposition's intensity and work-rate all over the pitch. Kilkenny veteran TJ Reid slotted sliotar past Sean Brennan on 54 minutes which left scores at 3-16 - 0-16 and ended the game as a contest.

The victors went on to score nine points in the final quarter showing no sign of mercy in a comfortable seventeen point victory. While the Dubs could only manage one white flag from substitute Eamonn Dillon.

Kilkenny have now put themselves in a great position to reach a Leinster final and qualify from the round robin after claiming six points from four games and sit second currently in the table.

Massive question marks now hang over this Dublin team after their poor second half performance.

Kilkenny welcome Wexford next weekend. While Dublin will make the tough trip to Salthill where they will do battle against Galway.
