Tyrone joint-manager Feargal Logan has publicly revealed that he is on the mend after suffering a stroke earlier this year.

Tyrone GAA issued a statement in February appealing for privacy for Logan as he dealt with ongoing 'health issues'.

Logan, who guided his county to All-Ireland SFC glory in 2021 in tandem with Brian Dooher, has been absent from the sideline since The Red Hands' Allianz League clash against Derry.

Now Logan, 55, has offered clarity to his recent health issues as he continues his recovery from a stroke.

Logan spoke to BBC Northern Ireland this week and offered clarity on the health issues he has had to face since earlier this year.

He said his legs felt 'very heavy' - which he first put down to fatigue from gym work - before things came on 'really suddenly' and he had a 'collapse'.

The veteran coach - who had been sent to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital -  has since been discharged and is continuing his rehabilitation at home.

Logan has admitted that his perspective has been changed after realising the significance of what he has been through.

There is a shock in it," he said.

"There's a vulnerability post-event. Now it's small steps back into society and back into life.

"It's clichéd but you appreciate your health when you've had a scare. I'm in that boat now.

"I think I'm still relatively young for that boat, but age is no factor in some of these things."

Both Logan and Dooher has been ratified by Tyrone GAA to serve as joint-manager's for another three seasons prior to the current campaign.

He still has hopes of remaining involved with the senior football team but stressed that it is a case of both being patient and practical.

'If I'm fit and able, it's a lot better than sitting in this room here watching it on TV and nearly breaking the TV a few times.

"I hope to dip my toes back in here as we go forward and it's small steps with everything in life now.

"Hopefully we'll see where the football fits into all that."

He has received widespread well wishes of the GAA community and beyond on social media as he continues on his path to recovery.

Logan took over Tyrone’s senior football panel alongside Dooher in 2020, just a season prior to ending their 13-year wait for the Sam Maguire Cup.

Tyrone begin their bid for another All-Ireland title in the round-robin against Jim McGuinness' Donegal in Ballybofey on Saturday.
