In response to the perennial controversy about Dublin playing all their games at Croke Park, the GAA are examining the possibility of building another stadium. The site of the proposed brand spanking new stadium: The M50.

Liam O'Neill expounded on the idea during a media press briefing at the All-Stars tour over in Boston. He said it would be impractical to drag people down to smaller provincial grounds in Leinster for big games involving Dublin.

Hence, the new stadium idea.

I think Leinster probably has the situation on their hands where they have to develop a stadium that holds 40,000. I think that’s the next one now.

They’re talking about the M50. There’s huge demand now. The challenge now is . . . to build a stadium that has access from Leinster.

O'Neill indicated that the M50 location was ideal because 'there’s no county in Leinster, other than Kilkenny or Wexford, that is more than an hour-and-a-half from the M50.'

This he said was a far better option than 'dragging people down to Longford and only 9,000, let’s go for 40,000 – and we can say ‘Right, we have a realistic alternative now.’
