For Carlow, today's Leinster Championship win against Kildare will be memorable for numerous reasons.

Doubling on their promotion from Division Four of the Allianz Football League, Turlough O'Brien's side are now into a provincial semi-final against Laois.

With the prospect of a Leinster final date in Croke Park on the horizon, one GAA statistician, dontfoul, has highlighted one aspect of Carlow's performance today that deserves a celebration all of its own.

Setting records not previously recorded by the statistician in question, one dropped-short free kick is all that stood in the way of a perfectly executed attacking game from the county.

Stressing that "nothing close to this" had been recorded previously, Carlow's 2-14 scoreline left nothing at all to spare.

Although it might not be enough to get past a potential tie with Jim Gavin's Dublin in a Leinster final, it certainly stresses that in Carlow at least, shooting is not a talent they take lightly.
