All-Ireland Champions Galway lead the nominations for the PWC Hurling All-Stars, which were released this morning.

After a year in which Galway won the League, the Leinster Championship, and the All-Ireland, Micheál O'Donoghue's team have secured 14 of the 45 nominations released by the GAA and GPA.

Johnny Glynn is the only member of Galway's starting XV for the All-Ireland final not to make the cut.

Elsewhere, Waterford have 11 nominations, with Cork bagging eight, Tipperary receive five, Wexford four, Kilkenny two, and Clare one.

Despite playing in midfield all year, Waterford captain Kevin Moran was selected as a forward, while Shane and Kieran Bennett can count themselves unlucky not to get the nod, as can Shane Fives.

The Hurler of the Year nominees are certain to raise a few eyebrows in the West, with All-Ireland champions Galway getting just one nomination. Despite fantastic seasons from Geróid McInerney, David Burke and others, only Joe Canning gets the nod for the Tribesmen.

The other two nominations go to Waterford's outstanding midfield pairing of Kevin Moran and Jamie Barron. Their domination of midfield and their scoring prowess going forward was at the centre of most of what Waterford did well this year, and they were especially effective in their semi final win over Cork.

The Young Hurler of the Year award will be contested between Mark Coleman of Cork, the 19 year old who had such a huge impact on the Championship, the man-marking specialist Conor Gleeson of Waterford who missed the All-Ireland final through suspension, and Conor Whelan. Whelan's performances in the League Final and throughout the Championship meant he was the breakout forward on the Galway team this year.

The PwC All-Star Awards will take place in Dublin’s Convention Centre on Friday, November 3.
