St Marys Sean Finns of Rathkeale in Co Limerick have been thrown out of the U21 championship just four days before they and Dromcollogher-Broadford were due to play a replay of the final.

The Limerick Leader reports that the club have been kicked out because they have been fielding an U16 player throughout the competition, which goes against GAA rules for U21 and senior level.

The Leader says:

On New Year’s Eve the two sides served up a thrilling drawn encounter when Drom-Broadford battled back from a six-point final quarter deficit to force a replay.

However, LeaderSport understands that Drom-Broadford did not make an representation in relation to the Rathkeale club playing an illegal player.

I remember something similar happening to Corduff GFC in Monaghan a couple of years ago; they were stripped of their title after winning the Ulster Junior Football Club Championship with an underage player in their squad.
