Kilkenny last played just under a month ago in the Leinster SHC final where they overcame Galway to win a third Leinster title on the bounce. Brian Cody's side won 0-22 to 0-17.
It was a mixed group stage campaign for the Cats with four wins and two losses from their six games. Those defeats came at the hands of Galway and Wexford.
TJ Reid's championship tally is now sitting at 2-46 and he remains Kilkenny's most prolific scorer. Walter Walsh and Adrian Mullen are other players who have been integral parts of the Kilkenny side this season.
Meanwhile for Clare, a heart breaking loss in extra-time during the Munster SHC final sent Clare into the All-Ireland SHC quarterfinal. Despite a strong showing from Wexford for the best part of an hour, the Banner County fought back from five points down to win 1-24 to 3-14.
Substitute Aaron Shanagher made quite the impact for Brian Lohan's side, scoring 1-2 after being introduced in the 58th minute. Peter Duggan and Tony Kelly also helped their side in the victory with a combined nine points, but there's no doubt that Clare will need everyone on top form if they're to overturn Kilkenny.
The winners of this semifinal will face either Galway or reigning All-Ireland champions Limerick who face off on Sunday afternoon in the penultimate game of the All-Ireland SHC.
