In Kerry, There Are No Hamstrings

Blizzards pin-up Niall Breslin waxes nostalgic on his sports career in today's Irish Times, as he recounts his time with the under-19 Leinster set-up and the Westmeath footballers.

Most interesting is a hilarious bust-up between Breslin and future Westmeath manager, now Galway manager, Tomás Ó Flaharta:

I walked in and Tomás Ó Flaharta was: “Don’t tell me you’ve a sore hamstring.” I was: “Here, listen. I don’t buy this: ‘I’m from Kerry. There’s no such thing as hamstrings’. It’s one of the reasons I’ve had to retire from rugby. Don’t tell me I don’t have a problem.”

Who knew Kerryman didn't have hamstrings? It explains a lot. Had Breslin's hamstrings never broken down, we might have never had the Blizzards to listen to, but there's no point ruing what might have been.
