Jim Gavin confirmed during the week that his tenure as Dublin manager would extend until the end of the 2017 season. It was good news for Dublin football and good news for those who enjoy an aesthetically pleasing game.

Those in the media who must wring noteworthy quotes from Gavin however probably did not rejoice. Speaking to Clare McNamara before Dublin's facile victory against Longford, he gave probably the most typically Jim Gavin interview you'll hear.

If it was another manager then you might consider the possibility that there was a wager to see how many cliches he could possibly jam into a one minute interview. He does not strike you as this type of individual however.

He started off steadily.
