One of the big talking points during All-Ireland final week was who would Eamonn Fitzmaurice choose at full-forward, his captain Kieran Donaghy or Paul Geaney.

The Kerry boss went with Geaney and given how the introduction of the Dingle man in the All-Ireland semi-final against Tyrone changed the game, consensus felt it to be the correct selection decision.

Come the All-Ireland final against Dublin - though he scored two points - Geaney did not have a good game.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jim McGuinness said he was disappointed in Kerry's attack and in particular cited the ball going Geaney as a flaw.

I was disappointed in Kerry's attack today. I think in the first half tactically they went with the wrong gameplan.

Paul Geaney is a dynamic player, you put him in along with dynamic players but they played a long ball, big man game. So that didn't made sense to me. If it was Kieran Donaghy in there and it was long ball on the diagonal, I think that could have worked.

It should have been one bounce, it should have been a dink ball. Win the ball, slip it to a runner. They didn't go with that. They went with Kieran Donaghy tactics with Paul Geaney. To me that didn't make sense.

They put Kieran Donaghy on in the second half and it changed the shape of the game and it changed how Dublin were going to defend. They actually handled him really well, sweeper underneath him. Break it, get something on the ball.

I just wonder if Kerry had taken the same approach as Dublin in how they were playing the game in the first half. 0-8 to 0-4 at half time, it could have been 0-8 to 0-6 or 0-7. It might have been a different game.

McGuinness also believed that if Fitzmaurice could replay the game, he would choose an alternative gameplan.

They didn't change tactics because of the weather. Even 15 - 20 minutes in, they could have made an adjustment. They could have played a different type of ball but it looked as if 'this is the plan, let's roll with the plan'. I think if they were going to play it again, it would be a different approach.
