Today was not a good day for Galway. They have been eliminated from the championship at the hands of Waterford on a scoreline of 1-30 to 3-20.
While they would make a late rally to put some pressure on the opposition towards the end of the contest, Galway's performance in the opening 50 minutes or so was nothing short of a disaster.
They were outplayed by Waterford in every aspect of the game, looking nothing like a side who should be challenging for All-Ireland honours.
The inquest into their failings will quickly begin out west, but there is one man that can come away with his head held high.
While it will be of little consolation to him, Joe Canning made history during the game in Thurles. By knocking over his eighth point of the game in the second half, he overtook Henry Shefflin as the top scorer in hurling championship history.

He also produced one of the most sublime bits of skill you are ever likely to see on a hurling pitch.
With Galway chasing goals late on in order to get within touching distance of Waterford, the Portumna man pulled off one of the most incredible passes you will witness in order to play Jason Flynn in to raise the green flag.

Despite another goal from Flynn later in injury time, Waterford would manage to tag on the couple of scores that ensured they would come out on top in the end.
