Emo defeated Killeshin by eight points in the opening round of the Laois Senior Football Championship on Wednesday evening.

Killeshin's task was made even tougher by their manager Karl O'Dwyer being unable to attend the game.

O'Dwyer, son of the legendary Kerry manager Mick, is based in the locked down Kildare and so was unable to leave the county to attend the game at Laois' Centre of Excellence.

Instead, he watched the game via a stream on Facebook and issued instructions to his management team over the phone.

"It is very strange," O'Dwyer told 2FM's Game On.

"We played last night and I was at home watching it on Facebook.

"I wouldn't be a big fan of Facebook but unfortunately I had to resort to those tactics.

"I was in contact on the phone with the chairman and one of the selectors. It was hard to get the message through at times because the wind was howling but it was the only thing I could do in the circumstances.

"Last night, I was looking at the half-time team talk, the camera was on them and I just wanted to be there. You see things that you want to do, that you want to change, and you can't do anything about it.

"It's frustrating and it's also frustrating for the players. You're trying to get messages across during training, then trying to reinforce it on game day and then when the game is on you're not there.

"I have been involved in management for 10 or 12 years but last night's game was the most frustrating game I've ever watched because you didn't have any input on how the game was going to go."

Emo will face O'Dempsey's in the round two winners' section while Killeshin play Courtwood in the losers' section.
