Kerry hurler Tom Murnane has been hit with a 48-week proposed ban after an incident after the final whistle of the Kerry Senior Hurling Championship final between Lixnaw and Kilmoyley.

The ban was proposed by the County Competitions Control Committee. As reported by Kerry's Eye, referee Fergal Horgan's report was crucial to the decision.

The alleged incident occurred after a controversial ending to the game.  Lixnaw were two points up with the game five minutes into injury time when Kilmoyley were awarded a penalty. With the last puck of the game, Daniel Collins stepped up, attempting to win the game for his side.

However, Lixnaw keeper Martin Stackpoole stopped the shot. The rebound was struck to the net but the final whistle had already been blown. In the aftermath of that several Kilmoyley players stormed the referee and he had to be escorted off the field.

Murnane has enjoyed a superb career with the Kerry hurlers, which includes two Christy Ring All-Star awards. If his club do not appeal the ban, it means he will miss hurling at every level until next year.
