Ahead of Armagh making the long journey to Tralee tomorrow evening for their Allianz League Division One clash with Kerry, Peter Canavan has praised the coaching influence Kieran Donaghy has had on the Orchard county.

The former Kerry All-Star winner joined Kieran McGeeney's backroom team in late 2020 and Armagh have continued to progress since.

Last year McGeeney's side reached the All-Ireland Quarter-Final where they were beaten by Galway on penalties and this year they will be hoping to land a first Ulster title since 2008.

Speaking on the RTÉ GAA Podcast this week, Canavan was full of praise for the positive role he believes that Donaghy has had.

“You only have to look at some of the set plays that have happened in the last year or two from throw in’s and free kicks," he said.

“Kieran Donaghy’s stamp is all over it”.

"I think they (Armagh) are very happy with him, he’s getting a kick out of it. He will certainly relish Armagh going down and getting one over Kerry this weekend.

"I presume he has an overall say in things but from a training point of view and from speaking to him he has different ideas and ways of doing things," Canavan added.

"He’s big into his coaching and he’s getting a kick out of it so be it defensive or offensive, you look at his basketball career and aspects of the basketball game that are very relevant to gaelic, I know he’s brought that to them.

"It appears in Armagh that there are a bunch of lads there that are taking everything in and as a team they are certainly moving in the right direction."

Armagh currently sit fourth in the Division One table. They beat Monaghan in their opening game, before salvaging a late draw against Mayo at the Athletic Grounds.

Last weekend saw them make the trip to Dr. Hyde Park where hosts Roscommon who currently sit top of the league had three points to spare over them.
