At the death in Kilkenny and Waterford's All-Ireland semi-final replay, Pauric Mahony had a chance to level the game.

The three minutes of injury time initially signalled had already elapsed. It was not to be for the player who contributed nine points to the Waterford score.

Post-match, Mahony was clearly distraught. Once the final whistle had blown and fans streamed onto the pitch, the Ballygunner man fell to his knees.

He was consoled by two individuals wearing Kilkenny jerseys. One was Padraig Walsh, the other was a young fan who had stepped onto the pitch to celebrate but also found time to comfort the Waterford half-forward.
