As Mayo comes to terms with the retirement of Lee Keegan, the former Mayo footballer revealed his incredible GPS during his career.

When Lee Keegan's name is mentioned, his incredible pace and breaking through opposition defences, while also keeping his opposite number quiet became his trademark.

Through Mayo's best performances in the last decade, Keegan was crucial to their success. Whether it was at full-back, corner-back, centre-back or even midfield, he covered every inch of grass to help his side to victory.

However, like every great team player does, he often had to sacrifice his own game to help his side, marking the likes of Ciaran Kilkenny and Diarmuid Connolly out of games during their prime.

Lee Keegan Reveals Incredible GPS Stats

As the game has become faster through the years, players are clocking up more miles than ever before.

The days of slow, defensive, physical football have come and gone, with the speed of which Dublin played with through their prime an example of how it has changed.

As a result, Lee Keegan's style of play saw him thrive through his career. With the game now so fixated on stats, Keegan revealed just how much kilometeres he would have typically clocked up on the biggest days.

For the likes of those, I used to be 10-12 kilometers. I remember the Dublin game last year including extra time I was 13-14, which is quite a lot for my old age at the time, I couldn't walk for about four days.

In the earlier days, used to fluctuate between 10 and 14, depending on the position and matchup, but probably 10-12 was the numbers I was hitting majority of the time. It's full revolution and evolution, you have the likes of stevie and Paddy coming in clocking up absolute ridiculous numbers.

It's funny, I used to be that statto man when GPS stats were a thing. You'd nearly get more obsessed with the stats than the performance side of things. You start thinking 'I didn't run that much, but then you start forgetting what did my man do? Did he do anything or did he get three points in training.

You start to lead towards getting away from what you were doing mileage wise, and start worrying about the football side of things, and that's where it can get a bit tricky at times. That was a great education when a lot of the GPS stuff came out, how to manage your performance versus your obsession with what did I cover."

Lee Keegan made these comments on his first interview since retiring on the Mayo Football Podcast. For any Mayo and GAA fan, it is well worth subscribing to her Lee Keegan's full interview.
