Long Live Larry Corbett

There's been plenty of discussion this morning as to why Lar Corbett has walked away from inter county hurling. Why did he go? Will he ever come back? At this point in time no one knows. So instead of wasting time mourning a hurler lost, let us celebrate a hurler lived.

Over the last few years Corbett has shown himself to be arguably the best forward in Ireland. He has emerged from the shadow of long time Tipp MVP Eoin Kelly to etch his own name into Tipperary folklore. The pinnacle of his hurling career must surely be the 2010 All- Ireland Final. With Kilkenny going for their 5th All-Ireland in a row, the script was written for the underdog to rise to the occasion and dethrone the Kings of Hurling. That is indeed what happened that day, as the Premier County romped to victory, thanks in no small part to Lar Corbett's hat-trick of goals.

A winner of two All-Irelands with Tipperary, not to mention four Munster Hurling Championships, the corner forward also has three County Hurling Championships with his club Thurles Sarsfields. The 2010 Hurler of the Year may be walking away from the inter county scene but he will forever have a place in our heart, and in the word of Johnny B and the Boogie Men "F*ck your Henry Shefflin I've a Lar outside."
