Looks Like The Championship Draw Could Have A Surprise In Store For Dublin

Dublin's last Championship game outside Croke Park took place in Pearce Park Longford on a sunny June day in 2006. The travelling Dubs probably wouldn't have known that day that it would take at least another ten years for them to see another Championship away day.

Due to the success of the reigning All-Ireland champions it simply hasn't made economic sense to put them anywhere else other HQ. However, criticism of that situation has been chipping away at the GAA and it seems that an end to situation is in sight.

The Irish Sun are reporting that, should Thursday's Championship draw deem it possible, Dublin will be given the kind of task that their younger fans will scarcely remember. A Leinster Championship game out in the sticks.

Despite the obvious financial benefits of having Dublin in Croke Park, there's been quite a few digs at the powers that be over the unofficial policy of keeping the Dubs 'at home'. Plenty of Dublin fans have themselves been quick to point out that they'd be just as happy to get a day out and it seems they might be able to get the chance as early as June 2016.

It would certainly be a novelty and it seems we'll find out if it will come to pass after the Championship draw takes place on Thursday at 8 pm.
