With both Dublin and Mayo having some 'previous' with the Cavan official, the immediate response to the decision has largely been one of disbelief, if not a little anger.

With Tipperary's Fergal Horgan pleasing many for his free-flowing mandate for yesterday's All-Ireland hurling final, McQuillan, who is known to be a little 'whistle-happy', may not officiate the game in the manner many would like to see it played.

Although the benefit of the doubt should be afforded to the experienced referee (many were sceptical of Horgan's appointment initially), it's fair to say that fans are not all that pleased at the moment anyway.
