There is some appointment viewing on RTE One next Monday night: a documentary entitled Micko, charting the defining career of the great Mick O'Dwyer.

It is produced by Loosehorse Films, who were also the people behind the fabulous Giles documentary last year. The format is broadly similar: cameras track Micko going to a game - this time the All-Ireland semi-final between Kerry and Mayo - and splice that with archive footage and a lengthy interview with the man himself.

Micko's sheer obsession with football shines through, which is buttressed with the remarkable assertion that "I'd like to be on the sideline watching or in the stand, and drop dead, that's the way I'd like it to happen".

He adds at the end that he was lucky to be born in Kerry.

Kerry got lucky too.
