Offaly manager Kevin Martin has recruited sports psychologist Ann-Marie Kennedy as well as Olympian Dave Matthews to his backroom team.

The Midlands Tribune report that Matthews, who competed in both the 1996 and 2000 games at 800metres, is taking over the squad's fitness programme. He has worked with the Cork hurlers in the past.

Kennedy is a renowned figure having previously worked with Jim Gavin and the Dublin footballers.

They will join former Tipperary hurler Declan Fanning and former Laois boss Damien Fox.

It is the latest in a series of interesting backroom team recruitments, as managers increasingly look to other sports for expertise. Former Munster rugby player Doug Howlett is working with the Cork hurlers, Dessie Farrell has linked up with the Dublin hurlers and Kieran Donaghy has taken on a role with the Galway hurlers.
