Paudie Clifford said it would be "unbelievable" if Fossa were to reach senior club level in Kerry.

The small club from outside Killarney find themselves on the brink of playing in the top tier next year after defeating 13-time Kerry champions Austin Stacks in Sunday's intermediate semi-final.

Fossa won the game on penalties after it finished at 0-21 each following extra-time.

"We couldn't have dreamt of it, but at the same time, we knew we had the players if we could put it all together," Paudie Clifford told Clubber TV following their coverage of the game.

"We had the game won, probably twice, but threw it away. We had a lot of faith in Shane (O'Sullivan) in goal and we'd done penos the last two training sessions, and we have good penalty takers. We were happy enough with penos. We would have rather penos than a replay.

"There were a lot of elements to that game we wouldn't be happy with. We gave away three soft frees when we were three points up. We showed great resolve with David's point at the end, unbelievable, but not surprising.

"We're looking forward to [the final]. It's been a long few years for us. I think we were written off a lot. They were saying our journey was over but it's not over yet. We have a good few weeks left."

The game went to penalties after David Clifford kicked a sensational equalising score for Fossa in injury time of extra-time.

"I probably had one on the other side where I should have slipped it off to put us two up," said David Clifford.

"It was a case of do or die at that stage. I just gave it everything I had and thankfully it went over. As we know, there are plenty of days they don't go over, so I'm very thankful that did.

"We know we are coming in against bigger teams, and we were being written off, but we have huge belief in ourselves, we have huge confidence in everything that we get from the management, huge belief in every player that we have.

"There's probably something out there that we are weak on wings and the corners. I think the last five or six games have shown that's definitely not the case. At the end of the day, we're delighted to win but it's a semi-final; semi-finals are for getting through, and it's all about the final now."

Fossa will face Milltown-Castlemaine - who defeated Killarney Legion in their semi-final - in the decider which will be played after the county championship. Fossa players will line out with East Kerry - the reigning champions - in the Kerry SFC.

"There's six of them in with East Kerry this year, which is a bit of a first for us, but deserved I suppose," said Fossa manager Adrian Sheehan.

"It's going to be the trickiest part of the whole thing, trying to get fitness levels right, the focus right.

"Last year, we had the O'Sullivan Cup for the East Kerry competition and we had a good few fellas playing in that, and that definitely gave us a bit of focus.

"We just have to get a few challenge matches. We'll be fine, we'll come up with something."
