After yesterday's Ulster semi-final loss to Donegal, it is likely that Tyrone will hold plenty of regrets over how the game played out.

Tyrone had their noses in front for much of the contest, although the two sides would draw level on nine occasions over the course of the match. Extra-time always seemed like a possibility, and having required the afters, a couple of late scores from Patrick McBrearty ultimately got the job done for Donegal.

It was a huge win for Jim McGuinness' men, although their opponents will no doubt view this as a missed opportunity.

Peter Canavan names two issues that cost Tyrone in Donegal loss

Tyrone came into this game on the back of an extra-time victory over Cavan last week. As a result, it is perhaps understandable that they struggled to go the distance once again on this occasion.

Speaking on The Sunday Game, Peter Canavan suggested that the Cavan game, as well as a couple of injuries, cost his old team in the end against Donegal.

The Cavan boys had something to do with that last week, the fact that the game did go to extra-time. And not only that, we had two players injured, one last week and another during training this week.

That meant that our bench was weakened, and the bench needed to be used much better today than it was because a lot of those Tyrone players, I thought from half-time on, you could see the difference.

A number of the Tyrone players were beginning to tire badly and it gave Donegal the impetus to drive forward.

So from a Tyrone perspective, immense disappointment. Donegal were built up after last week, it was a great chance to get at them, and I don't think they played anywhere near the level that they played last week against Derry.

When Tyrone reflect and look back on that, it will be one that they definitely let slip.

Tyrone's focus will now shift towards the All-Ireland round robin series, where a lengthy break will allow them to recuperate before having a tilt at the Sam Maguire.

Still, they might well feel that they let a potential Ulster title slip from their grasp over the weekend.
