Peter Keane was reserved when asked about the possibility of becoming the next Kerry senior football manager.

The Cahirsiveen man was speaking on TG4 after Kerry won a fifth consecutive Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football Championship. Keane has been at the helm for the last three of those wins and is one of the favourites to succeed Eamonn Fitzmaurice.

"Obviously I'm not immune to the speculation that has been going on for the last five or six weeks," said Keane.

I don't know. Maybe there's been a decision made already, I have no idea where it's at.

Like anything, you can only answer that question if you're asked. I don't think there's any such thing as an application form for a job like that.

That's something that a chairman and a secretary and their committee sit down and pinpoint somebody that they want to give that job to. You can only make a decision like that if you're some guy who's been asked to do it.

Asked what would be his response if offered the job, Keane said:

"You could never say no in a situation in Kerry.

"It's not like you're asking me will we go for a cup of tea in 20 minutes and we'll have quick cup of tea and that'll be great. This is a commitment for three or four years if you're going doing it.

"There's a lot of work to be done, there's a management team to be put in place, strength and conditioning, there's all that work to be done.

"I couldn't answer that question off the cuff for you here now, it would take some time."
