Dublin hurler Ryan O'Dwyer is currently in hospital following a one punch attack in England last Thursday night. According to reports, the 29 year-old was in London with the intention of attending the Rugby World Cup final, when he was struck outside a nightclub.

It is believed that O'Dwyer sustained a broken jaw as a result of the horrific incident and is awaiting results of a scan to confirm this. Originally from Tipperary, O'Dwyer developed into an integral attacking force on the Dublin hurling panel and was instrumental to their Leinster title success in 2013.

One source told the Herald;

It wasn't a prolonged incident. I think it was one punch and he fell over and hit the ground. They are monitoring him, but they are hoping that he will be fine. He's making progress

Well wishers of O'Dwyer have taken to social media to post messages of support to the married father of one.
