Former Galway U21 forward Cillian McDaid is reported to be set to cut ties with AFL club Carlton and return to the Galway squad for the 2019 season.

McDaid was a huge prospect within Galway football and impressed during last year's U21 final against Dublin when he notched 1-1. He went on to feature for Kevin Walsh's side during their 2017 Championship games against Donegal and Kerry.

McDaid signed for the Melbourne-based club after impressing at the AFL academy in the USA, but a report in today's Irish Independent indicates that McDaid is expected to end his career in Australia and return home.

2019 will also see the return of Corofin's Liam Silke, who informed Galway boss, Kevin Walsh, he would not be available this summer due to his intentions to travel to Boston.

The news comes just after Galway's exit from the 2018 Championship at the hands of Dublin. Walsh has not yet announced whether he is to stay on for the 2019 campaign.
