Despite a year where he helped Wexford achieve promotion to Division 1A, reach a league semi-final and a Leinster final, there was doubt about Davy Fitzgerald's future at the helm of the county's hurlers.

The source of that uncertainty appears to have come from Fitzgerald rather than the county's decision makers.

Doubt has today been ended. Both the Irish Examiner's John Fogarty of freelance journalist Jackie Cahill have reported that the Clareman will take charge of the Wexford hurlers next season.

Fitzgerald was appointed as Wexford manager last October. It came just two weeks after he had stepped down as Clare boss.
