After their brilliant start to the league campaign, Roscommon have been brought down to earth somewhat in the last two fixtures.

While they still remain in a very strong position having won their first three games, defeats in the last couple of games against Monaghan and Mayo have certainly pulled them back in towards the pack with meetings with Kerry and Donegal still to come.

Their performance against their Connacht neighbours yesterday was certainly mixed. Roscommon were very poor in the first half, finding themselves trailing 0-9 to 0-4 at the interval.

The second half was more exciting affair. Both teams traded goals over the course of the 35 minutes, with the Rossies getting back within a point heading into injury time. However, would ultimately emerge victorious on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-11.

Roscommon player Enda Smith called out for potential stamp

This result moved Mayo two points clear at the top of the table, with Kevin McStay's side sure to enjoy as victory in their neighbour's backyards.

It was a feisty contest at times.

One incident in particular was highlighted after the game as footage of Roscommon player Enda Smith looking as though he stamped on the leg of Mayo's Matthew Ruane as they tangled on the ground.

As Smith looked to pry the ball from under Ruane, his leg came down upon the back of Ruane's leg.

Smith was not penalised for the incident by officials.

Last week Kyle Hayes received a retrospective one-week ban for an incident that went unpenalised in the Limerick-Galway game.
