Abbey CBS from Tipperary won the Paddy Buggy Cup final with a six-point victory against Ballymena's St Louis Grammer School at Semple Stadium on Monday.

It was a close fought game which went to extra-time after the teams were deadlocked 1-10 to 0-13 after 60 minutes.

In extra-time the Tipp side pulled away.

A key player for Abbey CBS throughout was Shane Power who scored 1-1.

The day was not solely emotional for Power because of the victory. Just a day previous, he had attended his sister's funeral.

The centre-forward scored a late goal for Abbey CBS which secured victory.

Afterwards, selector Darragh O'Donovan, speaking to the Irish Examiner, hailed Power's performance in the face of the grief which he had just experienced.

Shane is just an amazing fella. There’s not a player in Tipperary can catch a ball like Shane can.

He’s beaten every centre back he’s played this year.

To come out and do what he did today, I don’t think anyone else could have done it.

He was very emotional beforehand – he’d normally be the craic at the back of the bus, he sat on his own today. His performance was something else.

Abbey were just three points ahead when Power's strike hit the back of the net. His emotion was clear in the celebrations which immediately followed.
