In Gaelic Life earlier this month, Joe Brolly mounted one of his favourite hobby horses - the managerial style and personality of Kieran McGeeney.

In both his McGeeney column and in his contribution to the Sunday Paper Review on Off the Ball, Brolly generally painted a picture of a monkish, frighteningly driven man who scares his own players shitless. Not only that but he then can't hide his disdain for his players' abilities. With the result that they don't deliver.

He compared him to Roy Keane, recalling the time Roy told his players that they were basically shit.

Listen lads, basically, you’re shit. Try and enjoy the game. You’re probably going to get beat. But just enjoy being shit.

Niall Carew - Kieran McGeeney's former right-hand man in Kildare, current Sligo manager, and thousandaire gambling whizz - has lashed out at Brolly in a column in the Sligo Champion.

In the past, McGeeney has himself castigated those pundits who are only interested in 'entertainment'.

Carew described Brolly as a 'self-serving self-promoter' who only takes on McGeeney from 'behind a laptop'.

Joe embarked on another verbal assault on Kieran and he has copied and pasted this article on more than one occasion. So if you want, get onto Google and you will discover one man's personal vendetta against another...

Joe Brolly has always picked on Geezer (off the field and behind his laptop) and while Geezer doesn't care, I can't let it go on any longer. He has never had a clue what goes on. But when you want to be sensational, you don't need to worry about the truth or the facts. Or ask the people who worked with him.

Johnny Doyle played under Geezer for six years. He wasted no time in making his thoughts on Brolly's attack public. What he says about the man carries much more relevance than what a self-serving self-promoter thinks.

Carew said that Kildare enjoyed six great years under McGeeney. Ultimately, according to Carew, it was Kildare that failed McGeeney rather than the other way around.
