Jackie Tyrrell didn't play in this year's All-Ireland final but that doesn't mean he didn't make an impact. In his half-time's speech, he reportedly told the Kilkenny players not to 'let them (Galway) up the steps' or words to that effect.

In an interview with KCLR96FM admitted he was considering retirement. He did not sound like a man who was itching to get back into action with the county team next year.

 It’s definitely in my head at the minute, I’m thinking it up as I say, you know, the age profile, injuries, things like that.

I would be foolish to think that it’s not a possibility this year you know, it is a young man’s game.

I’m not saying I am retiring, I’m just saying that I’m very much thinking about it.

In years past, Kilkenny's rivals might have been cheered at the thought of a player like Tyrrell departing.

Now, they know it'll probably make no difference.
